Ideas for Writing

• Show a graph from a newspaper or magazine and have students write a paragraph about it.
• Have students explain each step of a problem as if they were explaining it to a classmate.
• Write everything that you know about a topic (pre-assessment activity).
• Use journals or blogs and have students answer open ended problems or react to a problem or the week's learning.
• Have students write a "textbook" on a unit complete with explanations and examples.
